Course Overview
This fast-paced, intensive 4-hour class prepares the prospective student to successfully complete the PALS Provider Course. The new Provider Course reflects the American Heart Association's shift in emphasis to hands-on practice, resulting in significantly more time devoted to skills practice and testing, with much less time available for lecture. Therefore, the participant is expected to be familiar enough prior to class with rhythm identification, medications used in resuscitation and PALS algorithms and flowcharts to be able to apply them to clinical scenarios.
This PALS Preparation Course provides the necessary foundation for the prospective PALS student. It benefits students taking the course for the first time, as well as medical professionals who don't work with cardiac rhythms or lifesaving medications regularly, or who simply need a basic review of EKGs and/or pharmacology. Our state of the art simulation technology, combined with extensive and up-to-date written materials, enable the participant to understand cardiac electrophysiology, interpret basic dysrhythmias and gain familiarity with the medications most commonly used for pediatric resuscitation. We also provide an overview of the American Heart Association algorithms for PALS.
Some of the Objectives Include:
1. Describe the cardiac electrical conduction system
2. Identify the components of the cardiac cycle
3. Describe the 5-step rapid interpretation method
4. Identify lethal and non-lethal dysrhythmias
5. Identify the pediatric core algorithms as published by the AHA
6. List the most important medications used in pediatric emergency resuscitation
7. Recognize the contraindications and most important side effects of PALS medications
Who Should Attend:
1. Anyone taking PALS for the first time
2. Anyone renewing PALS who doesn't work with cardiac rhythms or lifesaving medications regularly
3. Anyone needing a review in basic ECG interpretation and/or pharmacology
