Course Overview
A thorough knowledge of basic physical assessment skills is essential for every nurse in clinical practice. Physical assessment is the first step in the nursing process, providing the foundation for the nursing care plan. The process of physical assessment involves three phases: the interview, the physical examination and documentation. This 8 hour program will review the basic techniques of physical assessment, including conducting a health history, auscultation, palpation, percussion and inspection. It will provide you with the skills and concepts necessary to quickly and correctly perform a head to toe assessment on any patient, document your findings, and intervene appropriately on the patient’s behalf. We use a systems approach to teaching, combining lecture, group discussion and the use of multimedia including video, overheads, handouts and simulated and actual practice. So please join us for a thought-provoking and hands-on learning experience.
