SECTION ONE: OSHA/TB/BBP

OBJECTIVES:

Upon completion of this program the learner will be able to:

•  Describe Standard Universal Precautions in patient care, according to OSHA and CDC guidelines.
•  Define bloodborne pathogens.
•  Explain the steps needed to implement an exposure control plan.
•  Explain requirements for employer and employee in maintaining engineering and work practice controls.
•  Identify proper actions to take in a post-exposure evaluation and follow-up.
•  List 2 components of the OSHA enforcement policy on tuberculosis.
•  Describe testing procedures for exposure vs. active tuberculosis.
•  Describe measures for prevention of transmission of tuberculosis.

SECTION TWO: HIV/AIDS

OBJECTIVES:

Upon completion of this program the learner will be able to:

•  Describe 4 modes of transmission of HIV.
•  List 3 ways HIV is not transmitted.
•  Describe infection control procedures for health care facilities for prevention of transmission of bloodborne diseases.
•  Identify current clinical management of HIV/AIDS patients.
•  List 3 methods to prevent or control transmission of HIV/AIDS.
•  Describe Florida Law on AIDS and the impact on testing, confidentiality, and treatment.
•  Discuss the latest statistics in the HIV epidemic and list the states with the highest numbers of cases.
•  List resources available for HIV/AIDS information.
