OBJECTIVES:

Upon completion of this program the learner will be able to:

•  Identify 3 factors that increase the risk of medical errors.

•  Recognize 3 error-prone situations.

•  Discuss processes and strategies to improve patient outcomes.

•  Recognize responsibilities for reporting medical errors.

•  Identify safety needs of special patient populations.

•  Discuss strategies for preventing medical errors through public education.

•  Identify 5 of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations' (JCAHO) National Patient Safety Goals for 2003 and 2008.
