HHA / CNA Inservice Requirements
STATE MANDATED COURSES
HOME HEALTH AIDES / NURSING ASSISTANTS
HHAs employed by home health agencies accepting Medicare and Medicaid are required to complete 12 hours of in-service training during each 12-month period (42 C.F.R. ยง484.36(b)(2)(iii)). Home health aides and CNAs assisting with self-administered medication must receive a minimum of 2 hours of training prior to assuming this responsibility (400.488, F.S., 59A-8.0095(5)(d)(15), F.A.C.).
Nursing Assistants
Florida law requires CNAs to complete a minimum of 12 hours of in-service training each calendar year (64B9-15.011, F.A.C.). Every two years, in-service training hours must include:
- HIV/AIDS, Infection Control
- Domestic Violence
- Medical Record Documentation and Legal Aspects Appropriate to Nursing Assistants
- Resident Rights
- Communication with Cognitively Impaired Clients
- CPR Skills
- Medical Error Prevention and Safety
Home health aides and CNAs assisting with self-administered medication must receive a minimum of 2 hours of training prior to assuming this responsibility (400.488, F.S., 59A-8.0095(5)(d)(15), F.A.C.).
