Phlebotomy
Course Overview
In this age of cross training, most members of the health professions utilize the skills needed to draw blood. This program develops phlebotomy skills in the RN, LPN, Respiratory Therapist, EMT, or PCA. It provides the skills to properly and safely perform venipuncture, as well as preparation of the specimen for laboratory analysis. Topics covered include anatomy and physiology, the venipuncture procedure, OSHA guidelines on preventing the spread of infectious diseases, and an in-depth, hands-on workshop with return demonstrations of professional use of equipment, special collection procedures, and complications of phlebotomy.
Some of the Objectives Include:
- Identify the cellular and plasma components of blood.
- List the steps for microcapillary specimen collection in neonates.
- Identify the most commonly used equipment for phlebotomy.
- List the steps of the phlebotomy procedure and demonstrate at least two successful blood draws on patient simulator.
Who Should Attend:
- RNs, LPNs, RTs, EMTs
- All allied healthcare professionals and students
- Ancillary staff, such as CNAs
The course fee is $135 for 8 Contact Hours. Course handouts will be provided on the day of class.
